  • Maui Vacation! Explore the Ocean Center and Western Maui Island

Island hopped over to Maui for spring break. If you ever have a chance to go, go during whale season (Nov-April), they were camera shy, but we saw them every day from shore jumping and splashing in the water. What we can share with you is the easy to film trip over. We took Hawaiian air from Oahu, it was a really quick flight after we finished ascending, we descended to land. First stop was the Maui Ocean center, it was a good intro to all the creatures mom and dad would see snorkeling in the crystal clear water. Then it was on to Lahiana an old whaling center with historical buildings, museums, shopping, and restaurants. We visited so many amazing sites and only saw half of one island! So much more to see, but spring break came to an end.

Maui is not a large island, and in theory it’s easy to see all of it—after all, you can drive from one end to the other in less than three hours. Instead of taking the shortcut, though, do some Maui sightseeing around the perimeter. Rent a car and pull onto the Hana Highway, where you can view some of Hana’s beautiful, secluded spaces, like the Garden of Eden Arboretum. You can enjoy its stunning views of the ocean and bamboo forest for hours. Once you reach the other side of Hana, you’ll find Haleakala National Park, which is set on a dormant volcano. If you go hiking there in the morning, you’ll see a brilliant sunrise and truly understand why Haleakala means “the house of the sun.” But who are we kidding? You’re here for the beaches—and there are 80 of them. Whether you want to go snorkeling in the crystal clear waters of Molokini Island Preserve or commune with the turtles at Maluaka Beach, you’ll find the perfect watery habitat on Maui. If you want to learn how to surf, Kihe is the ideal place; with its gentle waves and affordable lodgings, you’ll be getting barreled in no time. Weekend@NationalMuseum: Transforming Museum Experience Through Storytelling Despite enjoying growth in visitors Indonesia's museums continue to face a long-standing challenge: getting the public to engage more meaningfully with its collections beyond their use as eye-catching backgrounds for Sunday strolls and the ever-present selfie-shots. Conventional practice among many of the country's museums meant visitors are left to browse aimlessly in rooms after rooms of decades-old permanent exhibitions. Labeled with only the briefest and most technical of descriptions, the objects on display are often bewildering but for the most knowledgeable of archaeologists, ethnologists, and historians. Launched in 2013, dapoerdongeng's Weekend@NationalMuseum was quickly praised as "innovative" by the press and public for introducing the art of storytelling to Indonesia's 238-year old National Museum. It has since captivated more than 15,000 new and returning young adults, children and their parents. Collaborating with the renowned Teater Koma, we created fictionalized stories (thought to be possible given the context of the time and in consultation with the museum's curators), inspired by select artifacts among more than 140,000 in the collection of Southeast-Asia's oldest museum. For the history of Prince Diponegoro's lance and saddle we took the audience back on a journey to the bloody Java War of 1825-1830 --seen through the eyes of his ailing war-steed (performed by an actor). The innocuous history of the museum's famous terracotta piggybank --told by an imaginary little girl and the thief who stole it from her-- did not simply convey the use of coins 500 years ago. It also revealed the unending conflicts that destroyed the once mighty Majapahit Kingdom, leaving its populace desperate. Infused with the company's signature mix of drama and intelligent humor, the bite-sized plays' unique viewpoints and lively characters proved to be a hit among young and old alike. More significantly, this approach connects audiences with the human stories behind the artifacts, which help them to better appreciate and understand the museum's collections --not as obscure relics of bygone times but as the actions of real people and real events that continue to affect us today. Through information on our social media and the puzzles-games in our specially-designed Explorers' Maps, the program also encourage parents to join their children to further explore the country's rich multi-cultural history. Weekend@NationalMuseum is created and produced by dapoerdongeng, the team behind the Mystery of Batavia and Creative City creative-transformation projects at Jakarta's historic Old Town. Supported by the British Council and the City Government, the interactive animated performances engaged nearly 2,7 million live and online visitors in 2010-2011. Weekend@NationalMuseum will be back for its 4th season, April 2016! Find out more about our exciting stories here: f: Akhir Pekan di Museum t: @museum_weekend

With plantation-style architecture and décor combined with modern amenities such as dual rain showers and whirlpool hot-tub, guests relax in a tranquil oasis in the heart of Maui's historic Lahaina Town. The Plantation Inn was originally constructed by a group of Canadian businessmen and first opened its doors to visitors in 1987. In 1997, the owner of Kā'anapali Beach Hotel Sir Run Run Shaw of Hong Kong, China, purchased the property. The Plantation Inn's two buildings house 18 beautifully decorated rooms - 14 guest rooms and 4 suites in 7 different categories. A secluded tiled pool and Jacuzzi connect the two buildings creating a serene courtyard bordered by an array of lush Hawaiian ferns. Here guests can bask year round in Maui's warm sunshine undisturbed. The Inn is situated conveniently less than two blocks from the Lahaina harbor as well as the famous Front Street, known for its range of shops, restaurants, gallery walks and museums. The Plantation Inn is home to Gerard's Restaurant, voted OpenTable’s Top Most Romantic Restaurants in North America. Chef Gerard's Contemporary Island French Cuisine consistently earns some of the highest ratings in Hawaii.

This great little store on Maui deserves a little free advertising from a fan. I bought two special shirts there. The designs are retro or classic prints re-issued. The "museum" means they are preserving the shirts for posterity by having them made as they used to be. I have no affiliation with them nor do they pay me to say this. I just love their shirts.Great place to see when on Maui!

Maui Vacation Travel Guide As the second-largest island in the Hawaiian chain, Maui is home to less than 150,000 people. It makes up for its sparse population by drawing more than 2.4 million visitors per year, all of whom are drawn to its sparkling beaches, warm water, and lush tropical habitats. Polynesian and modern American lifestyles blend together in the Valley Isle. Maui’s legendary greenery, sprouting from fertile lava soil, has made it a popular place for hikes and scenic drives. Of course, its fascinating culture and history are also huge draws. Once you’ve arrived on the island, your Maui tour should kick off with the capital city, Wailuku, which is full of museums, pubs, and places to explore. From ancient culture to modern beachcombing adventures, Maui truly has it all. What kind of adventure will you have?
